Tour of Croke Park with Nicky English

On the day before the All-Ireland finals, the GAA organise tours of Croke Park with a special guest. So on Saturday the 6th September, I went along to one, with the special guest being former Tipperary hurler Nicky English.

Nicky English is regarded as one of Tipperary’s greatest ever players.

As a player with Tipperary he has won 2 All-Irelands, 5 Munster titles, 1 National hurling league, 6 All-Stars and an impressive 5 Fitzgibbon Cup medals in a row with UCC.

Before the tour I had 15 minutes to kill, so I had a quick look around the GAA museum. Unfortunately 15 minutes, was not enough time to enjoy the exhibitions and interactive zone there so I’ll have to make it back on another day.

The tour started off with a brief introduction to Nicky English in the media room.

After that we were brought to where the team buses arrive as Nicky English told us how teams would be preparing for All-Ireland final day.

Next we were shown the players lounge where after the All-Ireland final on Sunday, players from both sides would unwind after the game, have some grub and a few drinks.

Following this we were shown the dressing rooms and also the warm-up area for the teams before they go out onto the pitch.

Finally, we were brought out to the pitch itself.

It was an enjoyable tour, made all the more interesting and entertaining with Nicky English giving insights on teams preparations and telling some humorous stories from his playing days.
